Mature and Immature - What's The Difference?

Empirical studies show that teams belonging to mature organizations could be an order of magnitude more effective than immature teams. As we are not suggesting a small difference here, ten times variance can create a huge advantage in a market place. The pictorial is a metaphor for process improvement.  The concept of a ‘distance’ is well-defined in math. Going around and around does not measure a ‘distance’ between two points.  Rather, such a convoluted path creates a measure of immaturity.

We are not adding a paperwork or a ceremony. We do attempt to find the shortest possible route.

Process has no goal in itself. It is by definition, the means to produce the best possible product with minimal resources.

This is not just a picture, as during an audit, you can be dinged for being ineffective.

A Story

Consider an organization investing considerable resources into process. A well-known consulting firm is hired to develop process documentation. After a year of extensive effort, a hard-bonded volume with four-color printing - appears on the president’s desk.

Then an independent auditor is retained. His report compliments an elaborate documentation. He also comments that interviews ofsoftware engineers do confirm a mismatch with documentation. President asks the auditor to provide a quantitative assessment showing how far along theimprovement path the company advanced.

From the given choices, provide the most likely response that the auditor has to offer.

a) Zero percent

b) Ten Percent

c) Eighty-Five Percent
